What was the shot Jesse Ryder was trying to play to Tim Southee for his fourth? That's awful! What was nice to see about Southee knock was that his 6's werent all just wogs over cow. A lot of stuff straight!

N-Bomb/TL - have either of you seen much of this Sodhi kid?

Oh and McLenaghan looking good on debut!

He seemed like a good bloke - had a chat to him on the boundary during the Canterbury game.  He managed to spin it reasonably well even in the wet - bowled Todd Astle leaving as he brought one back in to him.  He showed pretty good control for the short spell that I saw of him too.

Ryder is just playing cricket for fun at the moment, full credit to him, he's just going out and having a smack, seems to be either a ton or a single-figure score at the moment, that's part of the reason why the talk of him back in the test team is a bit premature.

As for Sodhi, I agree he seems a good bloke, hasn't done toooo much with the ball, certainly promising but fitness seems to be a bit of a problem. Such a bad fielder that the ND guys have started calling him "BJ" whenever he makes a stop, light humour makes the day go quicker...

Just had a look at the Sodhi wickets from today, couple of gooduns there for a Leggy. Will be interesting to see how he develops over the next couple of seasons.

That's leggies for you - 3 wickets one day, 8 runs per over the next!

Anyone been watching any of the BBL? I'm actually quite enjoying watching a bit of it, and it's a great time slot to watch an innings or so before bed.

Plus... were my ears deceiving me or was Robbie Slater commentating on one of the games? (I didn't watch that one for long)

That fooled me earlier on in the comp - I think it is Damien Fleming.  When I first heard him (if it is the one i'm thinking of) I would have sworn they had Slater doing it.

Simple test.  If he mentions an ex-Socceroo in a smarming, first name, he's my mate kind of way or ejaculates as he says Harry, it's Slater.

How's my driving? - Whine here

New Zealand Cricket chief executive David White has poured cold water on rumours that fast bowler Tim Southee is set to be made Black Caps vice-captain.

Speculation was rife on radio and social media yesterday that the 24-year-old medium-pace bowler would be named new skipper Brendon McCullum's deputy for the South African tour.

Yet White told the Sunday Star-Times he was unaware of the rumours, and that a decision on who would be the Black Caps vice-captain was yet to be made - or even if one would be appointed at all.

"That's the first I've heard of it," White said.

Surely not.  I don't take much from White saying he hasn't heard of it as he also says he had no clue about Taylor being sacked while in SL, so obviously he isn't kept in the loop about this sort of unimportant stuff.

Makes it sound like it is not rumour but fait accomplis that Tim Southee is next inline, not Kane Williamson (or even Taylor - McCullum was Taylor's VC so why not?)

I said to my wife when we sat down to watch and saw our batting line up 'oh god, our tail starts at number 2'.  I was wrong...

...it started at number 1.  What a disgraceful batting performance.  Great job Hesson, great job. (Yes I blame him, and I don't care if it is irrational)

When I got up it was 60/8, I turned off immediately after seeing that 23 of that were scored by one player...that is bloody horrid. I really don't know what to think as I didn't see any of the game, but this is terrible.

Why is Fulton in the T20 team?? I barely understand his test inclusion but no way he deserves a T20 spot. And why is Nicol in any national side at all, he is trash. Never mind, it's only T20

While we were woeful you can't look past the fact that pitch was quite shit. Very low and slow which doesn't suit T20 at all. If you look at all the wickets they reflect the way the pitch played. Before someone says "same for both teams etc" it actually always plays in favour of the team batting second. a) when bowling first you see how the other team fail, how not to bat on it etc and b) the team batting first don't know what a good score on that deck will be so just have to attack to try set a big target, team batting second just have to do enough. Have seen the same thing happen first hand numerous times at westpac.

Fuck this stupid game

12k has been put on the South Africans at $1.20, T20 is such a crapshoot that he deserves to lose.... I'm not sure anyone deserves to be $1.20 faves in a T20 match, so many things could happen in such a short time.

Agreed BUT...

... the way we went about constructing our inningses was just awful, and for McCullum to shrug it off as just 'well we are aggressive so thats the way we play' is just piss poor.

I often see those big bets being retweeted by the TAB account, so many times they lose.

You're always better off betting on the underdog in T20. You'll hit it before the odds turn into a loss (as in if its paying $5 on average, you'll hit it once in 5 for sure).

Now watch as we get swept in the series and you all bring this post back up.

I can understand going for some quick 'low risk' returns, but cricket isn't a game I would do it on.

T20 in particular. Test matches perhaps, as that actually requires more skill than luck.

Yeah, T20 is the worst, but even with tests there's still the massive factor of the weather etc. And backing teams at $1.20 backfires way more often than it collects, as Tegal mentioned.

As for the game, there's no doubt that Guptill is far and away our best T20 batsman, great knock.

Guptill was dropped at least twice, just shows it's a game of luck and if those had gone against us it could have been different. Massive LOL at the guy who lost his 12k. Idiot.

Yep other than Guptill (and a fantastic catch from Neesham) I didn't see much difference.  LOL at Guptill crediting Taylor for his innings to!

Tbh I'm surprised people don't get rolled more often in T20, often the players batting at 8/9 are capable of scoring quick runs, say if you are 40-5 after 9 overs, is there really much point in battling to 110-120? I would just keep swinging the bat.

Is it just me or did the price of a domestic T20 game get jacked up.  $20 to get into today's game with Firebirds v central stags.  I was considering going until then.
