I was looking at it today (In an ideal world)
1
2
3 Williamson
4 Taylor
5 Ryder
6 Watling
7 Vettori
8 Southee
9 Bracewell
10 Boult
11
Now where do you fit McCullum. Lets just ignore his 'I want to be an opener statement' for a moment.
Do you push everyone down a slot and put McCullum in at 6 and ask Ryder to shoulder some bowling (with Williamson part time spin?)
Do you leave him to open
Do you promote Watling to open and give the gloves to McCullum
Either way, Hesson has dug a hole and at the same time tossed McCullum, his captain anointed, under a bus. The talk back today was basically saying that if Taylor is being told to swallow his pride and get back into the team, then McCullum can do it too and that with the recent bating scores that he has, McCullum is struggling to hold his spot on runs alone.
Shambles is only the half of it.
