Tom Delahunty, referee

This excerpt is from his friend Jeff Adams posted on facebook

Tom arrived in New Zealand in December 1956 and joined the Wellington Referee’s Assn. in 1957. He was awarded his Class 1 New Zealand Badge, No. 335, in 1959.

He was appointed to the F.I.F.A. in 1959 and earned a reputation as a competent and more than capable, top class referee. In his 15 years on the F.I.F.A. he controlled 19 full international games around the world, justifying the confidence the F.I.F.A. had in him.

He was appointed to the first National League panel in New Zealand in 1970 and refereed 2 Chatham Cup Finals.

He held most positions in the previous N.Z. Referees' Assn. and the previous Wellington Referees' Assn. These include; President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Appointments Officer, Tutorial Convenor, Delegate to Wellington Football Assn., Management Committee, Trustee, Assessor.

He was held in very high regard throughout New Zealand and has contributed enormously to football, both here and overseas.

In 2014 he was inducted in to the Wellington Football Hall Of Fame.

He was a top bloke.

Think he was Catherine's (politician), Andrew's (musician), Sarah's (playwright) Uncle Tom.
