Smokers - I mean, really, what's the point?
My parents both smoke even though my father had triple bypass surgery in 2000 and is currently in hospital having had another heart attack. They would dearly love to be able to quit and have tried so many times over the years, but the addiction is just too strong for some.
I thought the same too after my mother tried to give up smoking again and again over 20 years. As soon as she got a big enough scare she quit (with pharmaceutical help) after 40 years of 20-40 a day. I don't want to start an anti smoker flame war and the situation with a lot of people sucks but after seeing what she went through I firmly believe that anyone can give up with enough desire and support. I'm all for tobacco companies taking some of the heat on this but anyone that started smoking in the last 30 years should know better.
As for banning cigarettes it's simple. Money. Every bought duty free smokes? That's how much money the government makes on them. Naturally they'll argue the fact that they need to money to pay for the health burden that smokers put on the system but there's no way that tobacco would get into the population if it was discovered today........
That's all from me on this subject.
