its crept its way into textbooks or study notes too. Drives me mad reading through material and not understanding the acronyms. Or having to think twice about what they are. 

Makes it hard to actually learn it, for me anyway. Sometimes its handy, by mostly It's just lazy. I suspect in a business context some people use them a lot in an attempt to sound professional (much like the overuse of 'buzzwords') - which is retarded.
