It does make a lot of sense if an A League bid is their longer term plan. I not sure they will grow much of a fan base - none of the Handa Prem clubs will ever get large crowds.

But it does seem a good sound plan to build off a large junior/club playing base, sound infrastructure, academy etc etc before launching a bid. Would still need to work with ACFC, ES, Waitak and NRFL teams.

ACFC have said an A League bid is beyond their resources, but this Auckland United 'super club' maybe able to pull it off.

Be very interesting to see what further announcements come out on Monday, and of course both clubs need to vote on the intended merger. Hopefully members are looking at the bigger picture for Akld & NZ football - if an A League bid is part of the longer term plan.
