Matty is taking some time out, playing thirds...
On another note, the reason clubs invest money in players is because they want to succeed and pride really. In the end, that's what we are playing for, bragging rights and wanting to be the best team as there is no monetary incentive. It's not only the paying of players that can attract, it is also important to get the right coaching staff and people with influence and to also provide a professional environment where players want to play and be a part of, and having a good bunch of lads that want to play together and socialise.
With anything in life, people come and go and move clubs or workplaces (example) for different reasons...bringing someone out from the UK doesn't necessarily mean they are expected to stay at the club till death and you can't begrudge a player for wanting to play higher and a club seeing value in a player and tempting him to join, this isn't an anti competitive environment where you can't talk to him because of reason x, everyone is open to have discussions, then make their own decisions
And the money that is being talked about on this forum is pretty outrageous...obviously zoro etc has a far better knowledge of olympic than i do
Good on Kolic, he will enjoy a season back playing.
Fair enough, if a clubs goals that they want to sink money into is winning the Central League and having bragging rights around the wellington scene, then fair enough and good on them if they can continue to do it and their success is sustainable. You are right, quality coaching staff, facilities all contribute to creating an environment where players will want to play. Olympic have a lot of those things going for them, so do many clubs around the Wellington area.
I never said that bringing players out from the UK should mean that they should automatically stay at the club till death. I also never said anything about begrudging the player for leaving. I merely stated that It was disappointing for clubs who take risks and invest time and effort into bringing players out from overseas, only for that player to get here, play well and for another club to see that and offer them more money to come to them.
I take your point about playing a higher level. Although I don't believe that was the driving force behind this player moving. I don't believe that Olympic didn't offer him far more money than his current club and I don't believe that that isn't the main reason behind him going.
