I remember reffing a pre-season match this year, where a player told me I was rubbish when I called him for a foul throw, then continued to berate me every time he thought I got a call wrong in his eyes. He also told a couple of the opposition players that he would find them in the carpark after the game, all while his son was watching the game from the sidelines. After the match at the handshakes, he said to me "Sorry about that ref, it was just banter".
I was genuinely shocked that he thought he could get away with saying whatever he wanted during the match to officials and opposition players and then justify it by saying it was just banter.
thin skinned? :)
Nah, just shit banter.
Classic case of where Banter Squad could have intervened early and helped this fool improve the quality of his banter.
The more I think about it the more I think this is a good idea. Need some high-vis vests though.
