Many moon’s ago, there were 2 “teams” having a kick a round on a dirt patch in wainuiomata and a “ref” just happened to be driving past, he stopped and asked if they wanted him to participated in the ”kick a round”.
The offer was accepted, but there was a punch up and the “ref”put in a “report”.
It was later found the player concerned was registered with a club and he was given a suspension.
The club even went as far as to protest to head office who declined their protest.
Five years later, Head office via its lawyers, ruled that if a player is sent from the field in a tournament then the suspension is for the tournament and does not carry over to the league, unless it is for violent conduct against a referee.
Capital Soccer v John Murphy, sent off in the Hilton Petone Cup.
For many years all suspensions from the previous season could be worked off in the Hilton Petone, however any red cards in the Hilton Petone carried over to the leagues including the National league. (all clubs including Miramar had agreed to the deal for who knows how long)
Miramar protested and the verdict came back, that if the red card happened in a league match then the holiday was to be served in a league and or Chatham Cup. If the red card was not issured in a league then the suspension does not get served in a league
The way I see Reg 7 penalties being dished is starting to look like it was in the 80’s, who are you?, and what fed are you with?.
