Justin Palmer is heading overseas according to the VUW FC end of year newsletter

Yup, has moved back to South Africa for family reasons.

From what I've talked to Alex about so far im excited and optimistic for the season, even if we are losing Rosie Wild and Nicole Baird is injured for the majority of the season

What happened to Nicole?

Latest rumours are that the Rapa coach is now at UH ... and Ifill to coach at Rapa?? But if Ifill is still playing in the Central League I don't quite see how Saturdays are going to pan out?

double headers, decent assistant, Guillermo manages it at Wellington United as he is also assistant coach at Olympic in the MCL

True, although travel is less of an issue for Guillermo. If they have double header home games at least those will work.

Yeah ran into him a couple weeks ago and he said he was just waiting for a VISA to come through for that to be announced. Will be interesting to see how he does - I thought he underperformed last year with both the Vic Girls and the Gossies.

W-League transfers so far (from http://www.capitalfootball.org.nz/comps-1/player-...

Tessa McPherson Seatoun to Wests - has she got a coaching job at OIe?

Chelsea Epsom (Wgtn Utd) & Lena De Ronde (UHC) to Otago Uni AFC

and Wairarapa have signed Kelsi Rutune from Seatoun and Dani Turton from UHC

MIchael Utting had Phil Kenizey on his show the other week and he said Wairarapa were investing heavily in the women's side of the game again, so maybe more signings to come?

Potentially re Tesssa. I thought her Dad actually left Seatoun as they didn't want him to be coaching her?
Maybe this isn't the case as he is coaching Wests?

Be interesting as more transfers come through!

Anymore news? Does anyone know when the draw is going to be up?

I saw that Palmy beat UH in a pre-season friendly... a few players missing from both teams that I can see.

And Wellington United have named their squad: https://www.facebook.com/WellingtonUtd/photos/a.20...
(not sure if this link will work)

Anyone know how Seatoun, Wairarapa, and Stop Out are shaping up?

draw was up the other day, but I don't seem to be able to get to it now, just the mens Central and Capital leagues

but W-League starts on April 7th with Wellington United v Upper Hutt City, Seatoun v Palmy Marist & Rapa v Stop Out

I'd guess Stop Out could lock in the wooden spoon and I'd guess UH will drop away with the departure of Wendi (though is any team going to be stronger?).

Rapa could be stronger but it's from players moving there rather than new ones coming through so overall the league will probably be weaker. Top 3 will still be Wgtn Utd, Upper Hutt & Palmy Marist (in any order) then I'd go Rapa, Seatoun, Stop Out

Cap prem is probably going to be much more interesting - especially with 2 promotion spots available this season

Would think Karori and Uni the favourites for those spots, given Wellington Utd can't go up?

Going on last season aye, but then you'd be a bit biased on the Vic prediction :-) Who have you got into replace Nicole Bairds 22 goals and also Rosie Wild?

heres what I think (based on last season)

Wellington United - have heard they aren't as strong this year (but that could be by their standards) will still be up there

Waterside - should be favourites if they get a keeper sorted

Vic Uni - really depends on answer to above question, losing Nicole is a big loss, but new coach, new ideas, possible new players still a chance

BNU - will do their usual, beat teams below them but lose to those above

Petone - interesting with Gary Jenkins at the helm, had a very young team in the past (but then who in this league doesn't!) think they will be in with a shout

Upper Hutt City - struggling to get a team together, may pull out

Kapiti Coast United - No idea

Western Suburbs - have picked up Tessa McPherson and Ole seem to be starting to push the women's side, think will be alot stronger this year but be a couple of seasons yet before they get up to W-League level

Island Bay - new team, Sharkettes got relegated, Flames got promoted, Apparently Flames have been together since they were kids, not sure how they will handle the step up to premier

Stop Out - back in Prems after a season out, would pick for staying up but only just

So I'll stick my neck out and say Waterside and Petone to get promotion, with Vic, Wgtn Utd and BNU just behind

Speaking purely on Uni - Nicole should be returning some time during the season. No like for like replacement for Rosie though, but looking for existing players to step up in that role. We have 4 American exchange students who are all fantastic players and some other strong recruits as well including our new captain. Overall I think we'll be a better team than we were last year once Nicole returns. We're playing Waterside this weekend with our 2nds keeper playing in goal for them, so they sound like they're still struggling. Boyd Wilson at midday Sunday if anyone has any desire to watch!

The Flames were a good side last year, all about 16-17 years old. We (Vic Uni 2nds) beat them once, they beat us twice (incl. Cup final) from memory but they've spent the summer playing in a men's league which has helped them massively (although they did let me score against them last weekend...) However, I think the step up might be too much for them this year.

Definitely looking at Petone and BNU to put the pressure on us for the 2nd promotion spot, but I don't know how we'll fare with the new team til I see us actually play - with the nature of the Uni club we only released the squads for the season yesterday.

Should be a good season.

Uni have said no to W-League - short notice, additional costs, Saturday games etc etc making it not feasible. The girls also expressed a desire to earn the place there themselves.

Seems to be a trend all over the country, Auckland/Northern has sides pulling out of the top women's league, Mainland has had two drop out this year. Otago has 6 teams but two of them come from the Uni.

Stop Out have the numbers to play W-League, not the quality.... IMO too late to pull out..... they shouldn't be allow it..

Nahh 12 team league Wgtn Utd, Upper Hutt, Palmy Marist, Waterside, Uni, Rapa, BNU, Petone, Wests, KCU, Seatoun & Island Bay (or one other if they join together)

1 full round everyone plays each other, then split into top 6 bottom 6

If the offer Seatoun came to us with is the same as the one they have with IBU then Seatoun would be the W-League team and IBU would be the reserve side, no combination occurring, apart from some players going up and down.

At this point you have to stick with a 5 team W-League, or force Stop Out to stay. Its not practical to change everything with 2 weeks until the start of the season.

The blame here is pretty much entirely at the feet of Capital Football here with their idiotic removal of pro/rel.

yeah I was meaning this set up for next season, too late to change things now

the Seatoun \ Island Bay thing is the same as what you said, but when Seatoun can only get 8 players along to pre season friendlies you know the writing is on the wall and I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't have a team next year (or even this year)
