See Dougie we are really on the same page and reading from your posts earlier this year re masters/president you understand that mainland isnt for the greater good. Its about CASH. What would happen if everyone walked away from FTC. No other federation keeps its asset so caged and protected. Almost a restraint of trade.
Mainland Juniors (please play nice)

Not sure about the Masters thing, if they decided to go ahead with Mike Coggan's ideas then they'd lose a heap of players, he's advocated Sunday football, 7 v 7, no points table for Masters. I know of one team (mine) of 20 players who wouldn't be playing...
I do agree re cash though, i think $140 for a 7 yr old to play 40mins a week is crazy...

You could my masters team to that also.
We would all have to do what happened when Sunday League got started, play at private grounds and arrange games between those players/teams that are interested.
No need for Mainland at all. Use a portion of money clubs pay to Mainland as a donation to the school for use of grounds.
Plus you could claim it back with you tax return as a donation to a school.
the parents/coaches I chatted to in auckland wanted more not less. Most parents should be putting there kids at the forefront in all aspects of life. And if its good qquality and surrounded by good people it is great socially
To a degree I agree however you have to consider your own life and also those aspirations of any other kids that you may have. Just because my son is a football nut doesn't mean that football takes priority in the summer over his sister's sport. She may not be as good at her sport but that is surely irrelevant, she loves it just as much. Also whilst he wants to play summer football, cricket now is a bigger lure it is nearly summer after all.
Results for Timaru SIT for 15 & 16 Boys are on South Canterbury Football website.
That website is a shambles
B14 I went and watched the last day in Dunedin, unconvinced doing NTC and SI Tournament in the same school holidays helps anyone.
Anyone have any updates on 12s, 13s and 14s?
12th Grade
Harry's team got caned 0-6 by Otago. Yes you read that right.
13's both Canterbury teams won both their games Thursday, one player to hospital with a head injury
14's
1. Canterbury Black
2. Otago
3. Canterbury Red
4. Selwyn
Final was pretty tense. A number of players looked rooted (both sides). All 3 Canterbury goals in the final were headers despite being the physically smaller side. Sth Canterbury have 2 fantastic players (Ben/Cam) but not much depth. Nth Canterbury probably needed the 2 players who didn't bother with attending.
13's
Nelson v Canterbury
Otago v Canterbury
Is top 4 playoffs
B15 results incoming
12s Boys
Top 8
Central Otago, Nelson, Sth Can't, 2x Otago, all 3 Canterbury sides
I reckon the three Canterbury sides are all playing off for 5th-8th
12 Girls
Anyone's go for top 4 but Canterbury Black should make it. Result wise looks like a great comp.
14 Girls
1. Nth Canterbury
2. Canterbury
3. Central O
4. Otago
Heard Canterbury won their semi final 6-5! Sounds like a great game!
Not surprised with Canterbury's 12th grade results.
I'd say 13th grade will be between both Canterbury teams..two very strong teams..

Not sure what side, assume it was Black.
waimak 13 girls unbeaten at McCartney club tournament in Taupo.
Did they choose to do this instead of SIT G14?
If so great depth for Waimakari Girls.
Boys 15 SIT Timaru:

Boys 16 Sit Timaru
1. Cant Red 2. Southland 3. Cant Black 4. Otago 5. Marlborough 6. Selwyn 7 South Cant 8 Mid Cant
MVP 16 Boys Bikram Subba congratulations
sent a 15 girls and 17 boys as well. 15 girls have only lost 1 I think with a mix of wins and draws. 17 boys had only lost to fencibles as of last night.

Waimak 13 girls win. No losses or draws all tournament.
Waimak 17 boys also win McCartney tournament at taupo after result in final round go there way
I don't get it. Do North Canterbury not play in SI tournaments and they enter club tournaments?
some of these players on 6th day after SI. Following better quality in north island. And new experience. Generally waimak supplies all the playrrs for north canterbury. So players looking to play club tournaments. I just went with an unbeaten side in the south to auckland. Thats where you go to see where you are at. Most SI tournaments are a joke for waimak players for this reason. And while we did quite well this weekend at 9-10's we are a fair way behind and our 10's dominate down here. Either waimak has a great female debelopement or the rest of the south is in trouble when you lose to a club team at SI tournaments.

You may want to rethink your description of SI Tournaments as joke for Waimak players. It does seem a tad demeaning to all those other kids that have gone to the tournaments and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. This type of statement does nothing for the perception of Waimak as a club who are trying so hard to move on from their travails of previous seasons.
you are correct that we as a club have worked hard to clean up dramas which I was present at and were report for only one side but we move on only for others to redrag up while missing other incidents from favourable clubs.
My point was that north canterbury is generally waimak in a new name and kit up against sides picked from many clubs. Some of us beleive there are better options at club tournaments for our players, especially in the north island .
but im sure your opinion is higher than mine. Especially when then feedback from other club coaches I talk to agree.

There is no doubt SI Tournaments can be improved but labelling them a joke is a bridge to far.
do you guys not read. I said for our players they are. Have no problem with SI tournaments. They just dont suit a region with only one club likely to fill 95% of team like ours.
North Canterbury (not Waimak) 14th Grade team did well (6th), considering our smaller player pool, and the players who made themselves unavailable. Not all players however are from Waimak Utd.
3 Cashmere Tech, 3 Parklands Utd, 1 St Bedes, 1 Amberley (Hurunui Rangers), 8 Waimak (50%).
Boys loved the opportunity to play at a top regional level. Some are also going/gone to club tournaments as part of Waimak.
Players need to be exposed to the highest level available to them, and SI Tournament to me is the best option.

What about Amberley? I would have thought that you fellas would have more to pick from than the guys at Mid Canterbury - don't they only have Ashburton? Anyway it's not about the clubs they play for as opposed to the region in which they live.

I believe the 12 boys percentage was 100% and possibly it gets lower as they get older and more join FTC and play with their FTC groups at club level or go to school and play for school. But the quality of school players is probably lower and isn't it the FTC boys who didn't want to play for nth canty. Is it the highest level possible if not all of the best players bother. Clubs can't drive rep stuff so some players obviously see no incentive for attending. The opportunity for higher honours has gone as they are participation tournaments. I commend clubs for going outside the box in the best interest of players. Having looked at the taupo tournament it seems the Waimak teams competed against some pretty big clubs from across the north island. I'm sure it added some flavour to their experience not playing the same players they have played all season. I see no downside here. Correct me if I'm wrong

Another question of interest, how many players in the Canterbury teams came from below div one?
In fact were nominations sent to coaches below div one level?
If nth canterburys primary player base is Waimak, amberley, Oxford and schools then I would suggest they are definitely selecting from below div one level. How does that compare?
I don't get it. Do North Canterbury not play in SI tournaments and they enter club tournaments?
I assume they play in some, as there was a Nth Canty team in the 11th Grade Bowater Festival, which was a comp made up of rep teams from around the South Island.
The 10th Grade Bowater Tournament which was played at the same time and at the same location as the 11th Grade one, was however a mixture of club sides (Nomads, CTFC, Waimak B, Halswell etc) and rep sides (West Coast, Mid Canty, Marlborough, Central Otago etc)...
The Waimak 10th Grade A side for example went to a club invitational tournament of 24 club teams of which 20 were from AKL and other 4 from Hamilton, Cambridge and Tauranga (and Waimak).
The Waimak 17 Boys and Waimak 13 Girls won a club tournament in Taupo.
So i assume Waimak can enter teams at enter Club Competition throughout NZ they like.
Actually just had a quick look at the Nth Canty Football site, they list their teams as entering...
BOYS (11th,12th, 13th, 14th, 15th) and GIRLS (11/12th, 13/14th, 15/17th)

And herein lies the kernal of the dispute. Some look solely at football results in judging the gains on offer to the children competeing whereas many parents look at that but also at a whole host of other factors, such as benefits being away on a tour with other kids and time spent in the company of others. These tournaments offer children so much more than just being a football experience. Surely any child that lives in a district should have the opportunity to see if they make the best 13 or so in their area, regardless of what division they play their football in, and so get the chance of getting the experience?
all I can say is that we went to auckland, there was no comparable competition here. We beat mid canterbury 23-1, 2 weeks earlier and aoraki 10-0 as well(semi finialists at nelson I believe). We were competitive in auckland losing only twice 2-0 against winners, but there was still a gap.. Boys
had a blast and learnt heaps about tournament play and whats required to catch up. By taking our elite players to club tournaments is a huge benefit to our club and opens up spaces for others in north canterbury. As for SI tournaments why are many north island playersnot going to these tournaments but going
to club tournaments instead. Many coaches from the top sides in our grade down here I spoke to post tournament agree with what we do.
