FC Twenty11 2 (own goal, Ryan Nicholson) Nelson Suburbs 3 (Alex Ridsdale, Ryan Stewart, Zac Muir) after exta time HT 1 - 1 FT 2 - 2

Selwyn 0 Coastal Spirit 6 (Ant Jones 2, Ash Wellbourne 2, Tristian Nicol, Treye Bulter) HT 3 - 0

Selwyn not in the game today. Was always going to be hard after weekends victory and coming up against a very strong coastal team who were very worthy winners.

Coastal running hot in front of goal with another clean sheet. Hear James Hickok has landed a contract in Europe, when is he off?

So is the SI League a good thing or bad thing? What is this exposure going to get you? If Ede does go then the six points Selwyn have at the moment might be crucial.

The lure of driving 30kms each way for trainings and games was much more than playing in the SI league. I love those east coast winds

From what I’ve seen of Aiden couple times this season not much of team player so could fit in well at bays as they are filled mostly of ind

thats a pretty rich dig vim! have you not heard the antics of your beloved club after the nelson game? i'm sure you would have heard considering it's that bad, is the club offering fdm roles as a carrot for someone to leave? Or just ludicrous amounts of cash to replace a leaving player. Pot, kettle, black

Coastal upset two keepers and lost them throughout the season and they seem to be losing another one, obviously the solution is to throw money (alot of money) at another keeper. That's the development we all know and love about Coastal.

I think you misread that Dan, the way I see it he is having a crack at Vim and Coastals policy of never paying players, not you accepting payment which may or may not be a rumour which you just seemed to confirm. Coastal never upset those keepers, they got upset at the situation they found themselves in. Can't bag the club for that. or maybe I misread it? Happens sometimes. Vim can't afford to have rich digs by the way. Tell us more about the Nelson antics, sounds fascinating.

ron, what I am saying is the constant denial that there is payment of players to come across to coastal. It has nothing to do with dan or the situation of a player leaving Selwyn. My comment was based on what vim implied and it being pretty rich given the offering of money to nelsons keeper following the weekends game. Dont get me wrong, strengthening a squad is fair enough and understandable especially given moving into the si league. what i dont understand is the innuendo regarding other clubs paying when its happening right under your noses. surely a club, its board and supporters cannot be that blind to what a coach is offering

Coastal digs? I have recently left Coastal over the last month. And I certainly want to back up what they are doing there. Not so much the awesome stuff they are doing on the pitch but the culture and positivity is what ill miss the most. I wont mention my current club as respect to them but wow huge difference. Ive gone from training with a full squad every week to just 10 or 12 players :( Although training on a better pitch if I was good enough id go back to Coastal in a heartbeat. Thanks Ekow Matt and Hughesy. Ill be seeing you in the very near future. x

Was told to have a read of fever...

Lots of dishonesty going on here. I have ensured my players stay of this website but it still does frustrate me. Why the hate? We aint even doing that good.

Dan Ede, ouch man. I can understand why you dont like us right now but cmon. We didnt lose keepers. They were encouraged to go and play football. We must be doing something right when 3 class keepers were all happy sitting on the bench for half a season just hoping to play... Not good for them though. P.S Taco is on loan :D

As for James our current GK. Haha not paid, can you believe that? Ask him. Having finger in pots around the world looking for players that can be sold NEW ZEALAND is the key there. He was always temporary. Speaking of development, you should see what hes done in our GK academy. WOW. A GK coaching blue print we will be using from now on. Happy to share it with you.  Amazing to have kids be able to train with a player that has come straight from New York red Bulls environment and had some of the best GK coaches in the world coach him so recently.

Im not going to ask who your club has developed but we are all very ecstatic with what Aaran Spain is doing right now. Hopefully Haris or others can follow those footsteps.

Why the hate chat? Lets all be friends.

As for the new GK... had some great options but most not eligible for Chatham. We have had a guy lined up for over a month FREE haha

But hey, I can see why the rumors are there cause to be fair we do have a quality squad all enjoying themselves which is the main thing.

I hope your happy Dan :) play the game for enjoyment

See you round

dont sell yourself short ekow, 2nd place aint bad :).. Have nothing more to add, perhaps till the next round of rumours at the pub on sunday. i'll stand by my comments, till players stop "feeding" these rumours that everyone speaks of. Something is clearly off then. selwyn is a fairly 'new' club ekow in the bigger aspect, so in terms of development as you speak of, thats perhaps a tad off the mark. Personally i applaud what selwyn have achieved over the past few years, going from easy beats in div 1 but having a clear plan to now in the mpl. You cant knock that. from what i have always heard they have a number of young players in and around the first team, and a number who have been brought through. development is not just about going abroad to play, its more about bringing players through to top level football. Yes that is a 'bigger' picture goal, but developing local talent, keeping them and pushing them through is just as important if not more given the landscape of nz football in general

Not sure you can compare both clubs currently.

One has a team in the MPL doing very well whilst the other team comparatively is a long way off.

The distance though is exactly the same in the club development department. One is streets ahead of the other with young players right through the age groups who will kick on and play MPL football and hopefully further. They also have a facility and coaching set up which is probably only rivalled by one other club in the city.

You’d have to ask the officials at Selwyn but I’d also imagine that they knew the first couple of years in the MPL would be tough but I believe they have consistently played 2-3 16 year olds week in week out as well as standing by teenagers at the club who were seen as unpopular by other clubs.

Well done to Coastal for attracting players for free, it’s a tough job attracting players but the long term picture may have to be developing your own throughout, not just relying on Mainland to do it for you as there is no FTC now.

Selwyn are a class act. Not bagging them. Just trying to make it clear that I honestly think Coastal have and will develop some fantastic players. Maybe even more then most other clubs...

It hurts to see someone of Dans caliber ripping us like that. Not cool. Especially if I know it aint true.

Well I can tell you now that the Nelson keeper rumour is garbage. And soon that will be obvious. Frustrating people like you throw it up like its real news. Then Dan backs up with "alot of money"... simply not true.  But I guess thats what this forum is all about huh. I hope people dont think these sources on here are credible. Atleast Dan isnt hiding behind an anonymous name. Big ups.

Ill be getting in trouble for commenting on here. Couldnt help myself sorry.

I thought that firecracker I dropped might not have gone off, but jesus, look at this chat!

My dig, as hilarious as I thought it was when I wrote it, was tongue in cheek however based in fact I reckon. I mean, is there another player who has changed clubs that many times around the city for money more than him?

On the other notes....  I have always said that I hate money being chucked around the MPL and now CCL. I believe that it destroys loyalty, makes mercenaries, and defeats the development and purpose of clubs. Throughout my time on both New Brighton and Coastal boards, not one cent was paid to a player. I don't care if you don't believe that but it's the truth.

I have no idea what you're talking about in Nelson, I didn't go. It will be mighty awkward if that's our new keeper considering the digs we've given him over the years!!!  That free kick he smashed to pip us for 3rd a few years back will forever be etched in my memory.

I bloody love our last keeper, have done for 15 years, and it was sad to see him go. However when you're really good you wanna be playing, so if someone comes along and is better it sucks. No hard feelings, so much so he even came and hung out with us after his game on Satdy. It's all good. And the other one, who has gone on to bigger and busier things at Selwyn, I don't even think he was around at the beginning of the year.

I always thought you were the nice guy on the forum Dan, and I was the one that stirs the sh!t. Don't go changing. And I like Selwyn and what they do as well. So sheesh, this has taken a downwards turn.

And for the record, it wasn't me that broke the news of the transfer out of the club!

No there isnt, because as everyone keeps stating no club is paying players. completely agree regarding money being thrown around and the reasons why it stinks is exactly what you have stated. Simple fact is, either clubs, coaches or players are telling massive porkies. End of the day thats fine, protect your brand so to speak. Personally im all for the 'loan' of players as ekow mentioned, why couldnt that work? Number of players could be playing mpl football but for different reasons not getting opportunity at current club. loaning players out without coming under the transfer banner so to speak could be of mutual benefit, or maybe its getting late!

Ah Vim you are still my favorite from the Coastal family! Not trying to stir anything, 2 keepers left to play elsewhere therefore being upset at not playing. Life of being a keeper. However top signings in MPL don't often come "free".

Enjoy your travelling for the SI league though as i know you love your away days :)

Thanks for the heads up Kiwifan. When that whistle goes I just want to win. Outside or after the game im a nice guy I promise. Come give me a cuddle next time.  Referees accepted the apology. We all cool :) Young coach and still learning. Sorry if I somehow disrespected you. I too use to think I was disrepected when games were live but then I realised later in life that some people are just very competitive. Hence a sincere handshake at the end of each match.

To "Experience" well said man. To be honest I think good players attract good players. Bit of a snowball effect that needs to be harnessed.

Average age of Coastals squad is 23. Still pretty young.  But yeah miles behind Selwyn in some areas.

To "Liverpool for Eva" 2nd is still an empty cabinet. Fans and players all want more then that.

I think Coastals ethics can be backed up by being one of few clubs that have an FDM employed that doesnt play. I think the club had those kinds of options but its mian priority is to improve areas off the pitch not on it.  Claps n Hoyle etc etc all match winners. Very jealous haha

Enjoy the banter!!

Play nice
