Any news from friendly games this weekend?

I watched Coastal play Chch Utd yesterday. 3 30's, lots of changes, lots of new faces for us. Not sure whoever is paying the bills at Utd is going to be getting value for money as the mercenaries that have arrived in Yaldhurst didn't look that flash.

Coastal won 3-1 in the end, were 1-0 down when we got there.

Western lost to our reserve team 1-0 in the Waimak tournament.

Imagine if they didn't make it out of the CCL again!

Justice is served.

Western was a mix of 1st's and reserves playing

Bays had a mix of 1st's and reserves playing in Waimak tournament and beat Parklands 4-1

It's fair to say all teams had a mix of 1sts, reserves and kids, some where taking it more seriously as it is their home tournament though.

Western this weekend and SAS [who played Selwyn] last weekend had players away with the wedding season underway before the real football season starts.

Christchurch don’t look very United. Failed to raise a senior side then fielded a bunch of kids to play in waimak tournament

For the last couple of years that’s what they’ve done for Waimak tournament!

What’s going on at FC is a question to ask when 2 players look to have left in the last couple of weeks and have returned to Waimak

And one FC regular from past seasons playing for Coastal against Waimak. However it's  pre-season and you never quite know who has actually transferred. How's Parklands looking Benchwarmer?

Permalink Permalink

Hopefully this season we will have an easy, up to date way of looking at transfers. Didn't quite go to plan for last season

Permalink Permalink

Probably not.

From what I understand in Comet all players (unless redflagged) were cleared out of their current club around November. No Club = no transfers required??

We’re coming along as planned even if the results seem don’t look like it. Things will be a lot different in a months time

Are there any results from the Waimak tournament? I can't seem to find them anywhere?

Chch Utd are still offering the big bucks to our players. Tough to compete with.

Bloody ridiculous - basically Utd are saying we know you don't want to play for us but if we pay you this pile of cash will you play for us anyway!!

Permalink Permalink

Have heard that a few players are not happy with the attitude at Utd and potentially looking elsewhere

I heard parklands got pumped 12-2 against Waimak

I heard the same and we haven't played Waimak.

You have to look really hard on their facebook and then only some results - disappointing for the money paid to play in the tournament.

Not sure how long the tourney will last as most teams are arranging friendlies outside and only playing reserves / youngsters and trialists in the tournament itself.

They are putting a target on their backs for this season with how they are playing up - lots of teams will be keen to get into them.

I think that MPL teams have only ever played their reserve side and trialists. From memory the old Rangers/Coastal pre season tournament had a provision for trialists so I’m sure the Waimak tournament does as well.

Any players signing for CHCH United are no big loss to your clubs. Obvious they don't care who they play for, just chasing $$. Time to go back to players that want to be there.

It will be interesting to see the start of the merry-go-round now teams are becoming more certain and players miss out on MPL and look for the next best thing, etc.

I guess the same will happen with kids now academys are involved.

If you’re a student and get offered $200 a week to go play CCL, that is pretty hard to turn down. I certainly wouldn’t begrudge anyone making that choice to make their life easier and if the club are silly enough to pay players that kind of money then take them for all they are worth.

Slava wants. Slava gets.

For a shot at a first division with no prize money or pathway to play in bigger tournaments (excluding a couple of games v an even smaller footballing backwater - sorry Dunners)

I’ll be interested to see Mainland’s integrity unit’s actions this season. Can Bob Mueller lead the investigation please.

Kotahitanga. We are one.

To be honest I’m not sure there are many rules around the Waimak tournament as players can play for more than one team in the tournament and you don’t have to be registered at the club (which is something that has always been there and makes sense)

Well if they ever put the results up let's hope they don't include a goal difference column....

Are they putting in a 9-0 max result?  Selwyn Pumped Chch U on the weekend like 12-0 I think and on the FB page United called it 9-0.  Didn't realise that united were putting in the junior/youth teams to play

Wild rumour time. FC struggling for players for the MPL. FC to merge with Utd and take the place in the MPL........

I wonder what Halswell will think of that??

Wow, maybe things are falling apart at FC. Surely your original rumour can't be true and FC join with Utd 3 weeks before the season starts. Maybe that was all in the plan from the beginning?

I’m sure there is someone from either club that will be able to correct me if it’s not true.

I heard that Eddie Ashton and one other dragons squad member haven't  been released by the dragons but still expected to go back to FC.
