The rule is in place so that there is bigger emphasize on developing talent eligible for the All Whites, having 8-9 Non residents in your starting eleven doesn't help New Zealand football. Doesn't matter if they are already here or bought in after the fact, same thing. No reason they can't spread themselves around and not all be at the same one club, blocking the pathway of that clubs younger talent. We don't need or want a rule change.

FactChecker remember Mainland Football and Football South run their local leagues and not Football NZ, this includes the MPL and SFL.

how can you play a regional league under one set of rules that qualifies for another competition (national league) which has a different set of rules?? Common sense says that all the rules should align..... although I do wonder about the amount of common sense at MF at times....

Agree but different rules around the country for years, that is why clubs get caught out most years breaching Chatham Cup rules.

The new Conference League structure was only announced prior to Christmas with feedback asked for and many seeking further clarification on what does a NZ resident means as opposed to a player with a NZ resident permit but yet to complete the process of becoming a NZ Resident etc.    .

So clearly some are saying we need more information / guidence / maybe even legal rulings as to what all this means and to allow time may be different rules from one competition to another within the same season.

Just looked on the NZ Football website and cannot see regulations / rules for the pending the new 'National Championship' that kick's off in October.
