You got your wish Vim! The only all Mainland battle. Interesting that Southern teams were involved a round earlier this year, makes for a few good road trips.

So if all three Christchurch teams lose, then its a three-way tie for the Macfarlane Cup?

Yes one would assume so re the MacFarlane Cup being shared if all ChCh teams exit in the next round.

Not an easy draw for any of the Christchurch clubs, with Dunedin Tech leading the Football South Premier League, and Cavy second on the table, with both teams just one lost on ten games, with Cavy having have two draws.

Richmond having knocked over Suburbs will fancy their chances at home against Coastal.

Games set down to be played on 18 June.

I mean't it by the fact it will be a great game because of both teams being in the promotion playoff last year. Richmond will be seeking some sort of revenge.

Are you sure about Green and Yong?
According to the local Waimea Weekly it states "Jordon(Yong) and Matt (Shaw) will be leaving this week and Joe departs at the end of the month". On the basis of this it would appear that Joe Green is available for the game against Coastal on the 19th

Jordan Yong and Matt Shaw have left.

Joe Green leaves end of the month. He is here for the cup game.

Nelson Suburbs captain from 2010 and from ages ago will be available if he can fit in two league games before then.

Well there are 2 games scheduled before then so it could be possible. No games other than Chatham Cup scheduled in chch that wknd however Nelson seems to still have a full round which will work out nicely for them. Does mean they have to play Sat and Sun.

Looks like the facebook banter has started already. You'll be pleased to know I am playing no part...

I see in todays Nelson Evening Mail that Gagame Feni is injuried, only come on in the second half for Nayland against Nelson College in a gamed played on Wednesday only to be substituted so will be a blow for Suburbs if he is not travelling south on Saturday against Woolston Technical.

Yep, may just tip the balance in Tech's favour. Big weekend for them with the catch up game against Western on Sunday. If other results go their way they could jump from 4th to 1st over the weekend.

Ceretainly a big weekend for Tech and Western and to a lesser extent also Bays and Suburbs, plenty of possible permutations. Also Bays defending the Hurley Challenge Shield against Western.

Not to mention Utd v Nomads, probably Nomads last chance to try and get their season started. Sitting 10 points behind Utd, a win would give them a real boost and some belief they may escape relegation.Ronaldoknow2011-06-09 23:04:38

I heard through the rumour mill that Nomads had relieved their coach of his services during the week. Not sure if that's true or not.

Yes heard that coaches have stood aside for good of club with Martin Stewart helping out at training during the week, unsure if this is for rest of season so looking for another coach or not.

From tonight's Nelson Evening Mail.

Suburbs 100th win looms

Nelson Suburbs are on the brink of creating a small piece of history by becoming the first team in the Mainland Premier Football League to record 100 wins.

Last week's 5-2 win over Western was their 99th in the competition since it started in 2002, from 183 matches.

Ferrymead Bays and Western have the next best record with 90 wins each.

If AMI Suburbs are to reach the 100 win mark this week against two-time defending champions Woolston Technical, however, they are going to have to do it without the competition's leading scorer in 2011, Gagame Feni, who is suffering from a slight tear to his hamstring.

Feni, who has 12 goals this season, came off late in Monday's Chatham Cup loss to Richmond Athletic.

He came on as a substitute for Nayland College against Nelson College on Wednesday, but clearly struggled and was replaced.

Coach John Slotemaker said had the match against Woolston been a cup final, he could have been risked. Instead Feni would remain on the sideline and have two weeks to recover, with the side having no match next weekend.

Compounding the issue is the absence of targetman Brandon Kay, who is in Australia.

Slotemaker said they were considering starting Jerry Donga up front, and taking Andy van Straten and Nathaniel Payn as well.

While the loss of Feni is a huge blow, Suburbs received a boost with Solomon Islands under-20 representative Chris Tafoa finally getting clearance, and he will make his debut in Christchurch tomorrow.

Slotemaker said he had shown enough in training to warrant a start.

"He looks very assured on the ball.

"He understands particularly what the left back role is, and not only does he look to play balls down to the winger, but he's got a good eye for playing the ball into the central striker."

Matt Ayloff was doubtful, and if he didn't play, Mark Johnson would fall back into the centre of defence and Adam Smith would have another run in central midfield.

The other matches see Ferrymead take on Western, Halswell face Coastal Spirit and Nomads hosting Christchurch United.

D. T. or the other guy or both? Judging form AllWhite82's post it sounds like both, pinning a lot on Martin Stewart's shoulders.Ronaldoknow2011-06-10 23:29:16

Unsure but I think Nomads had three involved in their 1st team coaching staff this season, Dan Harris, Dave Treganza (DT) and Andrew Bull (Bully).

Anyway they have stood aside for the moment so unsure if this means that one or all could be back in charge before season's end.

Wow just saw the most amazing game. Coastal 2-0 down with 15 to go, Halswell get a player sent off and Coastal come back to win 3-2. One of thosematches.   I think Nomads were losing 2-0 to Chch Utd at one point.

Yes the result of the catch up game important with Bays away to Nelson in the next round, in two weeks time, as as already said Coastal at home to Tech, along with United vs. Halswell and Western vs. Nomads.

3 crunch moments within 5 minutes with 20 to go in the 2nd half - Ede taken off for Halswell which gave them no attack, Halswell player sent with straight red when he brought down Welbourne who was through on goal then Stanton and Gebhart substituted for Victor and Rian Hooper. Changed the game completely and Halswell were blown off the park.

2 big results in the Women's MPL with FC2011 sneaking a win over Coastal while the Varsities win over Tech has to be the upset of the season in either Premier League, good on them.

Yes some good skills shown in the Women's PFL with a great game between Coastal and FC today with FC the first team to take any points off Coastal this season, now both on 18 points with Coastal having the better goal difference plus a game in hand.

Well done University for picking up their first win of the season - Woolston Tech running hot and cold at the moment.

Catch-up game

Woolston Tech 0 Western 1.

Tom Cairns scored in the second half against his former club. Overcall was a crap game with little football.

So a real log jam behind Bays and Suburbs with Tech, Halswell Coastal and now Western all on 19 points.

Huge games on the 25th, Nelson at home to Bays and Coastal at home against Woolston Tech while Halswell have it a bit easier against United and Western should pick up 3 points against a doomed Nomads. 8 games to go and 6 teams still in it but if Bays win the title is theirs to lose.

Actually Bays took the lead after round 5 when they crushed United 9 - 0 with Halswel second and Suburbs third and have been on top since, some weeks leading on goal difference over Suburbs. AllWhites822011-06-12 21:40:14
