Just to change tack:the Womens Premier league continues to be very interesting, with a couple of unexpected results.Halwell were held 1-1 by bottom placed University(Halswell are definitely not the team of last year),whilst Western hammered FC Twenty 11 4-1.That was a great result for Western and thoroughly deserved:everyone was picking them as "cellar dwellers" pre-season,but they've played really well, individually and collectively.Could be a very tight and interesting season for all...
Both results very good for the league. I know Varsities got close to a couple of upsets last season, good to see them progressing. So why aren't Bays and Waimak showing the same committment to the women's game? maybe Mainland introduce criteria that to enter the premier League you have to do it for the guys and the girls?
Never saw Western as cellar dwellers. They blew the trumpet loud and long pre-season that Marty Moore was going to make them a force to be reckoned with, backed up by Dayna Napa they were always going to be competitive and will only get better. They played well recently against Coastal and were unlucky not to get a share of the points on that ocassion.
