When you have a look at the current MPL table it highlights some of the problems ChCh teams face, half way through the league season and there is only a 7 point spread from top to 7th. Not so down South where a couple of sides (Cavvy, Dun Tech) tend to dominate. In Christchurch there is a far wider spread of quality players amongst the teams while down South they are concentrated in those top couple of teams. Look what happens when the NFC kicks in, Mainland on the whole put out a much more competitive side than Football South. Ironically the "success" of the Dunedin teams in things like the Chatham Cup and South Island play offs is masking a lot that is wrong with Otago football development. If it wasn't for the Uni lord knows how "good" those sides actually would be.
