The Richmond situation has made football in Nelson very interesting.

Steve Bignall - coach of Richmond Athletic last year has now gone to FC Nelson (a merger of Nelson City, Nelson United, Nelson Metro).

But Nelson United are trying to pull the pin on the merger and play as their own team, much like last season.

Sounds like Steve Bignall is bringing a bunch of Richmond guys with him.

Joe Green, Jordan Yong and Ben Wright have all gone to Nelson Suburbs. Joe and Ben will coach the side. Suburbs relies heavily on youth, but like most years a lot of them have moved on after school to Wellington. Gagame Feni is coming back and rumour has it Mike Bothwell could be joining.

Richmond have now turned to youth and will hope to link up with Waimea College, Nelson Suburbs currently have Waimea Colleges three best players. They have kept player of the year Darryl Fenemor and two others from the first division team last year and Wesley Olea could be going to either one of the three.

The goal keeper for Suburbs could either be Coey Turipa or Eddie Newman.

Erik Panzer and Mark Johnston (both defenders for Canterbury United) will be with Nelson Suburbs again.
