Just stumbled across your thread, hope you don't mind me joining in and putting my 2 cents worth in every now and again! Have had a wee bit of a look thru and it doesn't look like you have too many FC Twenty members here so hopefully a fresh perspective for you.
And what a way to start today for me with a report on our first win of the year. As AW82 has reported a 2-1 win today and in truth a really good performance (from a FC20 perspective). My season starts next week so may not get to see too many more 1st team games but i've watched the 1st three games and can happily report some really good progress.
Was ready to write them off after the opening game v Bays where, in truth, we were awful. The 2nd game v Western showed some new faces and a far better style and today was very positive.
The new signing of Stu Bola during the week paid immediate dividends with him setting up the opening goal for Leon Vannoort after 20-odd seconds. We had a defender sent off after half an hour but battled hard to maintain our lead at the break. A second goal for Vannoort after about an hour had things looking good but Halswell pulled one back from a corner with 15 to go and, despite some concerted pressure, never really threatened to get the equaliser.
Don't think either team will be fighting for honours come the end of the season though. FC20 will, i think, continue to improve and should finish mid table. Our defending from set pieces is clearly the achillies heel currently. Halswell will probably be about the same. Their incredibly square back 4 is their weak point i believe. Simple 1-2's tore thru them with far to much ease and better teams than FC20 will surely put them to the sword if they continue with that set up.
Anyway that's my take on todays game and the season thus far!
Cheers
