New Zealand Football: Dunedin teams at home in ASB Chatham Cup fourth round
June 26, 2012
AUCKLAND – The fourth round of the ASB Chatham Cup will take centre stage in Dunedin on the weekend of July 7 and 8 with the city’s big two football clubs each landing home advantage in this morning’s draw.
Southern League leaders Dunedin Technical drew four-time winners Western from Christchurch, and Cashmere Technical will also travel south to meet Caversham with both matches likely to be played at the Caledonian.
Manukau City, the lowest ranked side left in the last 16 of the 85th running of the knockout competition, also fared relatively well by avoiding the five Northern Premier League sides. However, a home tie against first division outfit Papatoetoe will still be their toughest test yet.
Northern first division leaders Birkenhead United will hope the Shepherd’s Park faithful give them the edge over Hamilton Wanderers as they look to reach the quarterfinals for just the second time in the cup’s 89 year history, while giant-killers Stop Out are eying a third Central League scalp when they take on four time winners Miramar away at David Farrington Park.
After gaining revenge on champions Wairarapa United in the third round, last year’s runners up Napier City Rovers travel to Lower Hutt City for an all-Central League clash, while the Northern Region sees two heavyweight fixtures with Three Kings United hosting Central United in Auckland and Melville hosting Auckland’s Eastern Suburbs at Hamilton’s Gower Park.
The eight fourth round winners will enter an open national draw for the Chatham Cup quarterfinals. The final of the ASB Chatham Cup is scheduled for August 25.
