Halligan brings a wealth of experience as a former All White during the 1980s and 90’s and is a passionate Canterbury football identity. He previously coached Canterbury United during its first 5 years, in a player/coach capacity and more recently was the U16/17 coach during the last two years of the former Canterbury School of Football.
Halligan is looking forward to working with the talented group of youth players that Mainland Football has developed. “The Youth team has been very successful the last few years and I’ll be working to continue that trend.” Halligan’s first focus will be on identifying players for the National Youth League Squad working alongside the Club’s Football Development Manager, Martin Stewart.
Stewart was pleased with the number and quality of the applicants saying ‘it was great to see the effort those interested in the position went to’.
Roger Georgieff, Canterbury United Board Chairman Elect is delighted to attract someone of Danny’s calibre. “Canterbury United embraces the youth league as a pathway to ASB Premiership and beyond. We have an outstanding track record having won the title 2 of the last 3 seasons under the previous coaching regime led by Alan Walker and we are confident that Danny will continue this success’.

Hard to deny his credentials in terms of playing (which has arguably given him an in to the coaching opportunities he's had). Am I being too cynical in expecting to see his son in the baby dragons XI more often than not?
