Surely the way to go is back to the super youth days? Had all the schools against each other (Boys High and Shirley the top 2 by a way), and the standard was pretty good. Definitely had Chch schools fighting higher at a national level. No reason you couldn't have it on a Wednesday so players can turn out for clubs at the weekend. Different code, but rugby have got a good competition with the Press cup for the region. Probably not the money for schools to have it over as large a region (Timaru to Nelson) but something to look at. I would have loved the chance to travel round the South Island playing games!

Super Youth used to be played on a Saturday, because Halswell had a team in it for some reason. You're right though it should come back and be played on a Wednesday along with the other school competitions. I don't know if it should be ranked higher than U19's div 1 like it used to be (back when it was Premier Youth). Maybe it needs to be run as a joint venture between Mainland and whoever runs the secondary school sports. A bit like how FIFA run the U23 Olympics.
