Massive round in the MPL this weekend. Who'da thunk Western could top the table after last year's efforts.  Perhaps the pre-season tourney is a trend-setter.

I'm picking Bays 2 Tech 2, Coastal 2 Nomads 1, Western 1 Nelson 3, Halswell 4 FC2011 0.

AW82:  has there ever been a one-week Hurley Shield reign?  There better not be this weekend. have never

Yes a few - Western, Cashmere Technical (will check the records later). Shield changed hands 6 times last season which was a record - was also like the kiss of death if you were the holder in 2012.

For any other train spotters out there there have been six one game tenure of the Hurley Shield - Nomads twice, Western twice and one each for Halswell and Cashmere Technical.

The longest tenure is Woolston Technical of 13 defences.

Since 2007 when the Shield was first introduced there have been 56 games with the shield changing hands 16 times.

Only two clubs that have played for the shield - Rangers and Burnside have never won it.
