Here's the article by Bill Cowen (abridged - taken out 1st 4 and final paragraphs)
"My last article strongly criticised Mainland Football and its poor leadership and after visiting Barnett Park for our MPL match with Bays here is some more criticism and it does have a bit to do with the result. The presentation of Barnett Park was a disgrace for out Premier Men's competition - how the best players are expected to perform on a bumpy, inconsistently cut, poorly marked paddock like that is beyond reason.
It's easy to criticise when your own ground is not under CCC control; but Bill's main point about Mainland's sway with council is valid. I suspect a lot of it, like the Southern league talk, comes down to lack of vision & will at federation level and CCC having a few other priorities around town at present.
Just on grounds & facilities - I've heard that Waimak hope to have an artificial turf in for next season - at Kendall (Waimak district council have a few less issues to deal with than CCC, so that must help); and the new indoor courts & clubrooms will be at Maria Andrews in 2-3 years.
