I need to watch Waimak games.
Some of the coaches are the same in the 15th Grade Waimak team and just as bad!
Pre-season Waimak had a player run on and get involved in an on pitch altercation, and the ref bottled it and let him away with it... oh hang on it was their own tournament!
There's a Waimak girls team with a pretty bad reputation around town. Thing is, it's driven by the coach/ref, and the parents and players come to think ref bias and win at all costs mentality is ok. Coaches and refs are supposedly being educated before taking on a team/game these days. Should parents go to sideline behaviour classes before signing up kids to sport. What about that Auk football club "no cheering" thing in the media last week? As a coach who has told parents directly that I don't want my defender to "hoof it long" I empathise but passion is a big part of the game, it just needs to be directed positively. Rant over.
