Selwyn and Waimak drew 2-2. Waimak set pieces were outstanding.

Ouch. In saying that, I much prefer my #topofthetable posts.

Suburbs drew 3-3 with Cashmere Tech. Half time 1-1. Even game and fair result but referee did not have one of his better games

Western 3-2 winners over University at Ilam fields. Ref awarded Uni 2 pens, the second of which was dubious to say the least. Western dominated the first half and were leading  1-0 until conceding a penalty(tripped in the area). The second half threatened to go pear shaped for Western as another penalty was awarded(gifted?) by the referee. He penalised Western's goalie for fouling a Uni attacker at a corner, which was a laughable decision. However, the Western boys dug deep and scored too late goals, which was fair on the run of the play. The final 10 minutes was good stuff as Uni poured it on and Western scrapped til the end. Very enjoyable...

Waimak were excellent against Selwyn today and probably should have taken all 3 points. I think there is a few ego's at Selwyn that need sorting!

They are now off the pace of Nomads and FC Twenty. Dan Ede popped up with a couple of goals again though!

Selwyn play pretty football but get outdone when the going gets tough.

On a brighter note, the referees were excellent!

I don't know if I'd say Waimak were excellent - However I will concede, set pieces especially from the corner were VERY dangerous and deserved a goal, nearly with the winner right at the end.  Selwyn's defence today wasn't exactly stellar and Waimak wanted the ball more.  Waimak are probably more aggressive than Selwyn - which seems to be an area Selwyn don't do well in.

The Officials were good I agree.  I hope the keeper is also ok after taking a knock late in the 2nd half and apologise for the young fellas who didn't quite understand the etiquette of the game.  Banter good - person going down bad.

I still think 2-2 was probably a fair result

Heh - fair call.  Tho MPL have been very quiet, maybe due to Cashmere dominating everyone?

Chatham cup this week so both prem and div 1 should get a mention. Div 1 has a more interesting table as there are now 3 teams looking for promotion. The standard of football is pretty good this year and if Selwyn or Fc get promoted they should both do well.

Good game at Waimak yesterday I am sure the old Ifanz coaches Lee, Nick and Chris will be proud to see so many of their boys doing well.

Yes Vim, things started to go down hill for Coastal not long after recording their record win 6 - 0 over Halswell - I can recall a few Coastal supporters saying "we are going to win the league" after that win.

Have not scored in their last four league games with just one goal in their last six PL fixtures.

13 points out of 15 after the first five round but just 2 points from their next six.

Does not help having Ant Jones out but missing one good player account for such a turn around?

Interested to know what you've based the standard of football on? I don't think the standard is as good as two and three years ago.

Chatham and English Cup will give some indication for chances of promotion contenders ability to stay up once in the MPL.

I haven't seen FC20 this season, so based only on the fact that I don't see Nomads as being good enough to stay up if promoted neither will the other two. A big recruiting period pre season will be needed by the promoted club.

Also Coastal Spirit are the team with the "superior goals differential".

It would be impossible for Cashmere to have 12 points from 4 games, given the match being reported on was a draw.

What's happened to the Arch Bishop? I thought he would have been on here by now recommending you create #worsethanlastyear. I hear from a mate that the state of Coastal's home ground is atrocious! Surely not conducive to the stylish Coastal way and they will have to play on it a lot more than the other teams during the remainder of the season!

Disappointing result coastal probably just deserved victory. Good to see Selwyn giving young boys a taste of cup action 15 yr old Luke fowler played 90 and Luke Mackay had a good game from bench.
