Are Halswell on skid row?
Good weekend for Coastal. We'll probably fudge it up next week.

Really pleased with Selwyn winning at Halswell by a scoreline that would have been laughed at even just 3 years ago. But a funny game, Halswell had lots of the ball and played well in patches. They didn't take their chances where Selwyn did. We had very similar game in the Chatham Cup last week against Bays. I thought Selwyn played very well against the leading MPL side but we didn't take our chances and were punished. We did that to Halswell this week.
Can't say if they are on skid row or anything like that. A big club with lots of history like another team in our league. Don't know how many Russian millionaires are hanging round in Chch to help them out though.
Updated table:

Is Bays goals for the lowest total by the leading team at the half way point?
Here you go Ron,
Bays current total of 14 goals is 4 less the lowest previous by the leading team after round 10, and table as requested:
Team | P | W | D | L | F | A | GD | Pts |
Coastal Spirit | 10 | 6 | 3 | 1 | 20 | 10 | 10 | 21 |
Cashmere Technical | 10 | 6 | 2 | 2 | 34 | 8 | 26 | 20 |
Ferrymead Bays | 10 | 6 | 2 | 2 | 12 | 8 | 4 | 20 |
Nelson Suburbs | 10 | 4 | 4 | 2 | 17 | 8 | 9 | 16 |
FC Twenty11 | 10 | 4 | 2 | 4 | 20 | 24 | -4 | 14 |
Nomads | 10 | 3 | 2 | 5 | 11 | 16 | -5 | 11 |
Universities | 10 | 1 | 2 | 7 | 10 | 28 | -18 | 5 |
Western | 10 | 1 | 1 | 8 | 4 | 26 | -22 | 4 |
So what's the point of the other table??
I think Gavin has put up the standings if all results stood re: player eligibility.
So much THIS. Was seeking scores today and no-one from mainland, bays or cashmere could be bothered for a top of the table clash. Bays have made an effort but how can a club with the resources and cash that cashmere have not have a designated social media body? They haven't tweeted since 2016. Don't give a f#ck? dinosaurs? Or is there a reasonable reason?
From the Nelson Mail: Western vs. Suburbs wrap
Round 12 games - top four all play sides in the bottom half of the table:
Friday - 7pm
Coastal Spirit vs. Western
Saturday 2:45pm
FC Twenty11 vs. Ferrymead Bays
Cashmere Technical vs. Nomads
Sunday -1:30pm
Nelson Suburbs vs. Universities

Where is Mainland in all this tho? Sure we can rely on volunteers to do it but how many staff are there at head office and no one works on a Satdy to do results/updates and promote the game?
I think they should employ some sort of communications person....

Amazing round yesterday, probably one of the lowest number of goals scored in a full round - with three draws out of four - never been a round (yet) all ending in draws.
If Sean Morris has not scored for FC seconds before the full time whistle against University then would have had FC, Western and Universities all on 7 points and all on the same goal difference - 17, with scores scored needed to sort of the order, which would have been FC, Univ and Western.
Tough at the top ... and the bottom.
I see 4 draws coming up!
Best comp in years any one of 3 to win it and any one of 3 could be relegated. Certainly better quality football being played.
I think the difference is the improved quality of coaching (no disrespect to Broonie) having the biggest impact.
June is always the month when things get sorted - players/teams don't train, poor grounds, lower crowds etc. make it a struggle to get results. Top sides overcome this and go on to win the league.

Well Ron coulda got his wish of 4 draws as Coastal only just snuck past Nomads. Despite having the lion-share of chances we couldn't put it away and Nomads had a few close ones too. That's twice that has happened against Nomads...
while the argument of coaching may be valid personally for me it's the size of the cheque book. The 3 at the top of MPL pay their players, or at least a handful. It filters down from there, attracting quality players will attract other players due to the players around them. Is it good for the game? Absolutely not, it's half the reason the player pool isn't dispersed. Bet your bottom dollar if the big 3 Mpl clubs and add to that United in Ccl who also seem to have a supply of money to try to buy the league, then we propably wouldn't see such a bridge in quality. I'm pretty sure Selwyn do not, coach has built the team over past few years, Halswell clearly do not due to the player exodus and possibly taking a leaf out of their neighbours book towards the future. I'm all for spending money as long as it's towards grassroots and coaching, not players!

Coastal don't pay their players, so you can scratch us off the list.

Neither do ChCh United. They pay them to coach. As players they'd be a pretty poor return on investment.
Come on 10cc that's disguising the situation pure and simple!

Agree. Not very good at disguising either.

As I mentioned no issue with spending at grassroots and coaching. The problem is paying players to come in who are only after the money! If you wish to pay coaching services, pay coaches you already have or players who may have come through the juniors themselves or been at the club for many years. That's returning investment

So what to do if you don't have any of them and still want to revive a legendary club? What is Halswell doing not to fall in the same hole? What is Western doing? Same old will only give you same old. In Halswell's case poaching players (with or without spending money) is no longer an option as either the coffers are empty or players are choosing coaching over empty promises.
Probably 'easier' for the newer aspirational clubs like Waimak and Selwyn as they have had to start with very little/nothing. Anyone that credits their growth to just the earthquakes has his head in the sand.

Universities?
Criteria for pathway in women's game (and even that is proven insufficient ) so about time that gets introduced across the board if we are serious about growing quality players.

It's an Amatuer League. It's illegal to pay players.
Or is it?
Having now had time to look back on my stats can confirm that yesterdays round equaled both the most draws in a round as well as equaling the least number of goals scored in a round.

Yes was bloody cold yesterday. Lesson learnt - Do not assume someone else is twitting, if at the same game.

Love your tireless work AW82, but I think all clubs should try to encourage more engagement from their members; and posting on social media should be fully utilised as part of that. Some clubs are fantastic - match day line-ups for senior men AND womens team, live tweeting, regular FB posting of club events, you know who you are ;). Others have "room for improvement". For a big club with plenty of cash, I can't see what the excuse would be.

Actually that's no excuse, it costs nothing to tweet. Just hard to watch and type but if I can do it anyone can. Just gotta remember to keep one hand on the zimmer frame in my excitement.

Word around the traps is that actual reason Dutch Technical Director resigned from Christchurch United FC due to lack of organization and serious misconduct of president Slava Meijn towards people within the club.

Started with a board of 7, three left early on, the fourth coinciding with Technical Director's resignation. That leaves President Slava + 3.
Don't think Coastal gig is quite what Pieter was looking for. Neither what was expected from him at CFA once he got here, which was vastly different from what he signed up for.
"that's not in my job description".
Friday night football returns and even better it involves Coastal.
As a coastal player I know players dont get paid. A couple players get incentives but not paid in cash. Both of those players havnt been playing because of injury or international duty. Its obvious new players aint getting paid when they complain about having to pay for yellow cards lol. Yes we have recruited well the last couple years but thats mostly because of our coach. For me its simple. Players go to Tech because they have the best infrastructure and always win. Players go to Coastal for the coaching and a club on the up. Players go to Bays because they cant make the Tech team or Ekow doesnt want them.Obviously apart from Murph and the very few loyal Bays lads. Not going to lie, its pretty depressing training at Cuthberts but its all worth it. Coaches make the difference for me. Having played for John Brown at Tech man management specialist, love the guy - Halligan for Canterbury a tactician - Im fully supportive of Ekow who has both of them attributes. Im not here for cash. Pure and simple.
Are you really a player Mr Despicable? If so your a bit of a rebel posting in this forum... You do speak some sense though. One thing Coastal can be proud of is their development of coaches and succession planning. Homegrown coaches and players make up the bulk of our senior environment. Zac, Spain, Tristian Rhys are having superb seasons so far and are the heart of the team for me. Loving watching the games that I have this season. So excited!! Next year sounds even more exciting :D Freaking love this club. Choo bloody choo
