the bits in bold and underlining are mine - this cleverly thought out "plan" is taken from their website
Christchurch United FC has plans to develop a WPL team for next year.
Our long term goal is to create one environment for girls U13 and up, where they will be challenged daily to improve their skills and where they are surrounded by players of similar ability level. At this stage we have got several talented girls playing with the boys, and they are developing well. The next step in their development should be playing in the WPL. Says who? Absurd assumption.
So after much consideration we believe that this is the right moment to start with a WPL team (2019). Believe what you want, there's a process to follow.
At this stage we know there is a great potential for having a really strong WPL team where the focus is on developing younger girls within the team. We badly want to make this work. Wow, one emotive statement right there, hardly a plan though. But wait -
The plan
- Training will be twice a week at the Christchurch Football Centre and game day Cunning, especially the game day bit :)
- Coaching staff is more or less confirmed, with a coach with a SL2 license and an assistant coach with a degree in Sport Science More or less? Make up your mind. I thought this was a plan?
- We have enrolled an U17 girls team at the Western Spring U17 National tournament in Auckland in March Whoopee!
- We have discussed a sponsorship option to ensure players can enjoy all the benefits of first team football at a high level. This is likely to mean no sub’s will be payable for the WPL players as a minimum Likely? Will it or won't it? Love the loose use of the word "discussed" to imply this is a done deal. Danger, danger.
- Program to be run for the season, starting end of January and finishing end of term 3 Clever! That about covers the season.
The next step in this process is to investigate the support from you So is this going only to current club members or are they going to be ditched back into the boys teams while you chase talented players from other clubs? in order to go ahead with the plan. We would like to invite you for a meeting to be held on Monday the 21st January at CFC at 7pm. We will invite all that are interested in joining the WPL team, or the ones that might be on the edge of moving to play senior football to discuss the pathway.
If you could please reply with an expression of interest by sending an email to [email protected], it will give us a feel for numbers and support. We have already had a number of players from other clubs Ooops let the cat out of the bag! keen to learn more about this new exciting new younger WPL team of the future.
We hope to see as many as possible to discuss the plans and go forward from there. Plans now huh?
Don't get me wrong I welcome any plan to improve and strengthen women's football in Mainland (this probably doesn't reflect that but hey I'm a stirrer as well :)) but this is nowhere near being a plan, to me it looks more like a poor attempt to attract players from other clubs. It's more a vague idea how "we" can get a team straight into the WMPL. Ego destroys common sense, culture kills strategy. Seriously I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole in it's current form. Do the hard yards United, you of all clubs should know by now there are no shortcuts in building a club. There are lots of them in destroying one though.
