Barry is an honest enuf guy in my eyes and i've played against (and with, Marist Tourney) him on a number of occasions and he gives and good as he gets. I didnt c the game but if Barry says he didnt do anything malicious then i believe him.

I remember goin in with 2 feet on Barry at Porirua Park a number of years ago and with the linesman and ref all following the play, he would have had a great opportunity to put a kick in on me but he didnt.

Roy Keane would never have played football again if the FA took the line that this muppet HopperCharris is suggesting.

Barry Lewis Fan Club Anyone? We have the Yellow Fever for the Phoenix so how about the Red Curtain for B.Lewis?

Porirua East has "got yo back son"

Now what would be nice was if the ref thought, 'hey I was wrong and I should resolve this. I'll admit I made a mistake, not file a report and enable Barry and Al to play this weekend'.

If that was to happen and say next week Olympic and Wellington united play and Barry scores the winner for Olympic - I'm sure SO would be over the moon that his suspension had been 'forgotten'. Half the league would know he's been sent of this week, there would be a lot of questions asked if he appeared on the park next week not suspended.

At least the decision is made on the park and in public - where the referee can use his discretion with public scrutiny of both teams and the public, as opposed to 'in private' discretion of not submitting a report.

The avenue you propose leads to all sorts of trouble of allegations of bias and potential to 'influence' the referee.

A favourite mantra of many managers (and players) is 'What happens on the park stays on the park' - to ensure we can all come together for a pint without grief after the game - it should be the same for referees disciplinary decisions.

Fastest cards in the game.

You have to wonder if he practised, I've never seen any other ref get a card from a pocket and in the air in such quick time.  He must be a great keeper...

I happen to know that he did practice. I was one of his linesmen during one game and I'm sure he had the card in the air before he'd finished blowing for the foul.

Barry Lewis out for 3 weeks thanks to some retared referring.

Will be missing out game with Miramar which is his third miss of the seaon all against our closest rivals.

This Ref's stupidity killed the game and put a small damper on olympics hopes for First place / 2nd.

Tasker was in a grumpy mood once and decided he would make up a rule that we weren't allowed to go to the changing rooms during half time. That was much appreciated in the pouring rain.

I know you're an old man Feverish, but your memory should be better than that.

In fact, it was a perfectly sunny day and he decided on our behalf that it was just "not necessary" for us to use the changing rooms. Although we pointed out that really it was our prerogative and that we had used them every other half time for the past decade - plus there was gear, privacy, water and a first aid kit in there - he banned us from heading back in.

No reason given, except that he felt it was a nice day (not to be wasted perhaps?).

My favourite Tasker memory was playing for Wellington College him deciding that we weren't allowed to wear white socks because it wasn't our uniform.  He made us change to yellow prior to the kick off!!

You sure it wasn't because the other team was wearing the same colour socks perhaps. I know he doesn't like both teams to wear the same colour socks, makes penalty box melees more difficult to keep track of!

Thankfully the draw has been revised and instead of playing Miramar in week 3, as seen above, we play Palmy Marist and Miramar will be the last game of the season.

Hopefully CF will take into account reports from Olympic and Stop Out and realise the mistake Burling has made and only suspend me for 1 week.

I have to agree that Tasker was quick with the cards but like Da Boss says 'you knew where you stood with him' and he always gave you an explanation.

Correction, barry you miss 3 games re, Napier, Palmy, and Gissy. Po po po.

Reffing was disgrace and now Olympic must suffer for 3 games so close to the end of the season with hopes of a title birth still alive.

Back for miramar.

If it makes you feel better I've been sent off by that idiot as well and I personally don't think his refereeing is up to a decent standard either.

My send off was a ridiculous one as well, First yellow card was debatable as the momentum from a tackle carried me through a player, didn't complain too much. Second yellow card he showed me because I shouted "FOR f**kS SAKES" as one of our strikers made a cock-up, at the same time he was also blowing up a foul and seemed to get the idea I was shouting at him. phil_styles will vouch for me as he was on the other team I was playing against...

I suppose they are human (Refs) after all, they are allowed to make mistakes, My problem is that some of them make far too many fundamental ones time and time again...The problem is that that are not that many of good (experienced) ones so it looks like that we will come across problems and issues like that a lot more often, unless the Clubs decide to make a stand and demand that the Refs are also accountable (not just the players or the Clubs for that matter).
They are there to "officiate" the game not to turn the games in their own little power plays.
I think over the next couple of seasons things will get even worse. We must encourage some of the older (meant to say senior soccer ) players to start thinking about getting into Refing once they stop playing competitive football...just a thought!!!!

Whoopsies. My bad.

As for the standard of reffing, why not have the coaches after every game give the ref a grade and if hes not up to par NZ football should look into it. I mean The Central League is an important part of Wellington and co. and i would like to see the level of reffing be up to standard as the players are.

i believe the coaches already fill out a card for the referee for capital soccer like on a 1-10 scale on different areas, however as you could imagine, if a team loses, the refs not gonna score good he is haha

I believe refs do get graded but lets be honest I don't think CF take much notice of these. They probably look at it as sour grapes unless both teams clearly grade the ref low. I think refs should be made accountable for their actions and there should be some sort of appeal process when both teams are willing to go on record and state how poor the ref was. NZ football must be one of the only sports that don't have an appeal process.

If no appeal procees then at least be consistent with suspensions. I get two weeks for supposedly kicking a player yet a West player gets one week for a studs up tackle to my groin area that was clearly intentional.

Having been away for a couple of weeks or so and now reading this post it seems somewhat evident to me that the referee involved in that game is not up to it. Clearly if there are several players and teams complaining about his performances then wellington soccer needs to look into this.

Capital Soccer have enough trouble finding refs for matches, I can't imagine they can afford to send another person with enough rule knowledge to judge a referee to every match.  If they have that knowledge they will be reffing themselves.

I think it is just 1 player and a few supporters from one club.

Come on Gaffer - if you have seen football in Wellington, you would have seen Barry Lewis play.  If that is the case (and you are not a one eyed Greek fan) tell me he doesn't deserve most of the sending offs that he gets......

There are some good Refs still around, however for one reason or another they have decided to make themselves unavailable for CL matches. These days as long as the Refs pass the fitness test theey are just about guaranteed CL officiating. They don't really care that much about the "quality" of the individuals...they just want them to be "fit".
We need some more Refs to do it for the love of the game and not for "power" that the whistle gives them.
I am sure that the Refs have their own "grading" system, we just need them to come up to speed with the "game"

Well Frankie Mac here we go again...ASSUMPTIONS !!!!!
To set the record straight (by the way I am an Olympic Fan with 2 eyes and 20/20 vision) Barry playes hard but not dirty, big difference between those two....and yes even himself will admitt that some of the cards were justifiable, but we are talking about this particular incident. I am sure that you are smarter than that...and that before you trying to "label" someone you must check your facts.

Nothing to stop both clubs writing to CF and the Referees Association to put their feelings on record about the Referee. If one ref is the subject of a series of complaints, especially from a number of different teams, it'll be looked at.  It's what we've been told to do up here.

Maybe I'm biased 'cos I reffed in Welly but you don't know how lucky you are. I've said it before, the standard of refereeing in Soccer 2 is absolutely abysmal.

Barry, obviously I haven't seen the ref's reports but from what I've read on here you probably copped 2 weeks 'cos your red card was for Violent Conduct, whereas the studs up tackle was probably reported as Serious Foul Play. VC always carries a higher suspension

P.S. I refereed Barry a few times in Wellington and I don't think I ever gave him a card of any colour!

I was actually asking the question to the Gaffer, but alright.

I think this is the second red card that Lewis has had this season, and after both of them we have had pages of *adopts girly voice*  "everyone picks on him.......it was never a sending off.......he was helping an old lady across the road before the game and the ref ran up and gave him a red card for mugging her......."

It gets very boring.

The only other mention on him on this forum was when he tipped the ball over the bar with his hand in the game against Wests, yet got away with it.  Hard but fair, huh?

Like a lot of players, he bends the rules as much as he can, but it seems to be that he is not as good as most as knowing when to stop bending as it is going to snap.  That is why he has the reputation, and that is why he will continue to be punished for it.

As a side thought, I saw Barry get sent to "sin bin" in a preseason game against Miramar this season for swearing at the ref.  Now he swore at the ref loud enough that everyone in the ground (pretty much) could hear it, and was then all aggrieved when he was sent off for 10 minutes for it?  I am sure that if it was a league game and he was sent from the field, all sorts of Greek fans would have been on here complaining about how unjust it was.
