Putting this here because it's more likely to get to people who knew him (mainly peoples fathers/grandfathers :) ).

Wally passed away peacefully this afternoon.

A contemporary of great Wellington based players such as Jimmy Warrender and Arthur Ingles (just not as good, which he wont mind me saying) He was well known in Football circles in Wellington in the 60's, 70's and 80's (I believe he played for Northern (now BNU), Hungaria and Upper Hutt).

He coached the Upper Hutt first team for a number of years in the 80's including during their extended run in the Chatham cup in 1980 where they beat Miramar Rangers, who I think at that stage were National league champions.

If anyone associated with Upper Hutt could pass the information along to some of the old timers at the club it would be much appreciated.

Regards
