The shock I guess was Women's Sportsperson of the YearAmber Mulhall-Larsen. Star of league winning team but despite a number of players unavailable she couldn't make the squad of 20 for the Womens National League.

Not only is her non-selection shocking, what about Briony Barclay not getting selected either? Another glaring omission is Monique Francois. Those 20 in the squad must be world beaters for those three girls to be omitted!!!

Amber is class, I saw the important local games this year and thought she throughly deserved the womens player of the year award. Bri is a predator and one of the best natural goalscorers I have ever seen at any level. Saw the final this year, left foot, right foot, header hatrick off the bench to turn around a 2-0 deficit despite being injured  - amaziang. Check out Rab's report http://www.soccerotago.co.nz/spl2009/womenfinal_aug30.html
Mon was class that day as well. Apparantly due to the national league not being confirmed until August and Footballsouth not appointing coaches until the end the season had finished a number of students had already made plans to head home. I can only assume that Mon was unavaible as she is one of the best midfielders and is one of the few with National League experience. Which makes the omission of 2 locally based stars even more shocking. I would have thought all 3 would be automatic selections.
Hopefully the 20 in the squad are world beaters but some how I think another team from the south has shot themselves in the foot.
