From MY records (will change if wrong); Coastal have defended the Hawkey Shield 34 times from 2019 to 2025 (games include: Mainland Premier League, South Island League/Qualifying and South Island Championship).
My understanding Coastal won the shield off from FC Twenty 11 back in 2016/17, but unsure on that. The next match to be played will be the 70th match (Cashmere vs University)
Out of the 34 times, University of Canterbury challenged for the shield the most with 10 attempts. The closest attempt Uni (and any other team got) was a 2–1 win (for Coastal) back in 29 July 2023, with Melanie Cameron scoring in the 90+2' and 90+7' to win the match. Other challengers are; Cashmere Technical eight times (not inc today), Halswell United eight times (inc Halswell Christchurch United back in 2023), Waimakariri United four times, Nomads United and Ferrymead Bays both twice and Selwyn United once.
Coastal have had three wins where they scored more than 10 goals and all three times the game ended 12-0. First was vs Halswell back in 2020, second was vs Nomads in 2021, and third was vs Halswell Christchurch United in 2023.
Coastal have scored 158 goals and conceded 15 goals. Most matches were played on at English Park 19 matches, 11 matches at Linfield Park (4 on S1, 2 on S2, and 5 on 'unknown'), 3 at St Albans Park and 1 at United Sports Centre.
It would be good if (as well as for the men) 1) There was another shield added to the league were any team is eligible to win it, as well as keeping this one. Though yes both shield could be held by the same team, non-Canterbury are able to contest for something extra in a match 2) Mainland should keep track of the history of the competitions as there is no place to view any info on the shield (apart from the current holder and next match) and leagues rather than relying on the wiki for all that is there.
