Dome's thinking the crowd at Eden Park may hit 25,000 against SFC in March. They got  8,327 on 25th Nov against Melbourne City at Mt Smart.

Sometime tell Mr Foley he's basing his new franchise at the wrong ground, until a a shiny downtown stadium is built.

Yes factors at play like Nix are now top of the table, some hype is building, is ex coach Uffy coming to town etc etc. But the consistently pull in the crowds at EP. It's just so much better as a game day experience. Plus Nix are unbeaten there??

What is it about Eden Park that you think makes for a better game day experience? You may be the first person I've come across who thinks so

Depends what you are into I guess. Love the energy and vibe of Sandringham pre game. Love that if I feel energetic I can walk there from the city, and/or walk back into the CBD fringe like K Road's bars post game. Otherwise lots of public transport options.

Also I like the feel of Mt Eden, with it's leafy nearby streets, plus the fact Eden Park has a lot of history. It's also very central to all parts Auckland. On all these  facets it's superior to Mt Smart in ugly industrial souless Penrose. The crowd sizes are regularly bigger at EP for football games, so I can't be the only one feeling the same. Sure there is more hype around the Nix now than in November, and Dome is maybe being overly optimistic for the SFC game in March (it may end up pissing with rain on the day) - but if the crowd is 3x actually larger in size - well that's a loud statement.

But yeah also helps that my uncle lives just off Dominion Road, so I have been to EP alot over the years for rugby, cricket and Nix playing there.

Just a pity it's a concrete jungle with the worst NIMBYs in NZ.

I dunno, the Petone bunch that scuppered the Nix's hopes of flattening a condemed stand and rebuilding a decent stadium at Petone Rec were pretty vocal.

Even if some of them were intimidated by some of the local Rugby fans (Sign this petition NOW). That and the nowhere to walk my dog group - Surprisingly, there's about 4 acres of grassland across the road from the Petone Rec - behind the Petone Working men's club.
The Phoenix and the council did nothing to advertise or actually discuss their side of the agenda whereas the rugby club got organised and put out flyers, etc. It's as much the Phoenix fault that nothing happened as it is the nimbys.

The cynic in me would hypothesise that the stadium announcement occurred the season before the Phoenix License was due to be renewed and might have been a bit of a theater for negotiations that weren't going well.
