Interesting read in relation to Auckland and successful sporting teams. I hardly follow league at all, but still notice the buzz around the Warriors. Yet they only sit 9th (bottom half) on the current NRL ladder!
Basically keep the rules simple, win more than you lose, and have some genuinely best in comp star X factor players that fans will pay to see!
Sports don't come much simpler than football. Though a big plus for the Warriors no doubt is they are the only NZ team in their comp.
Be interesting to see if 'Pinot Ports' become a thing if the Black Knights start off with a bang, and Aucklanders jump on board.

The latest buzzword around the Warriors is ‘Pinot Wahs’, a phrase to describe rich, white sports fans that have jumped on the club’s bandwagon. No longer are the Warriors a team only supported by those from west and south Auckland.

"That’s well and truly false, we’ve got members all around the globe, let alone all around New Zealand,” George said.
“We’re really proud that we’ve got a nation following our footy club and in Auckland, there are just as many members north of the bridge, than south of it.
“We’re seeing a huge growth in our membership, right across the board. We’re a nationwide club, supported by a nationwide fan base.”
But George is a realist, he knows the Warriors’ popularity could wane if form drops.
