" So where the hell did ‘The Port’ come from? Maybe we should ask the Auckland FC marketing team, because it seems they created ‘The Port.’ It's not really a supporters’ club - it is a marketing initiative. "

Ooooh, that one's got a grain of truth in it

In that The Port have evolved in a close relationship with club management, in the sense that YF didn't, I believe?

(Although I do think The Port is a good name, at least no sillier than any other name)

Paddy has got that wrong. Is a Devlin interview with the Port elite where they say 4 guys had a beer together and decided to start a supporters group.

Sure they then approached AFC, to form some sort of relationship but it was all kicked off by a small group of football fans, and apparently some of them go back to being fans of the Kingz/Knights

You can see on FB they organise all the Port merch themselves. And punters have had the usual moans about a club like season tickets and jerseys being slow to be mailed out etc. They ain’t bitching much yet about their club but that will come

I reckon part of going Up the P*rt. rather than Up Auckland (bland) is just it’s more fun shortish cool word to say. A bit like Nix is more popular to use than Phoenix
