Lots of amazing people for him to learn off here, but he had the yips completely when I saw him play in some cup competition, and was terrified of mistakes and the defenders didn’t want him there. It can be unforgiving and lonely here if you’re not achieving the required level. Often with the competition and environment you can get a one and done situation. You screw up and you instantly lose people. Not sure how much that would have helped him to be honest.
There’s stories about guys getting frozen out at places like Nintendo and elsewhere, but they trusted their talent and had a strong ego and were able to get through it.
Kyoto has plenty of spots for reflection though!
