The new Swedish Allsvenskan season starts early April, immediately post the March FIFA window. It's likely best Sims stays in Sweden to fight for the starter's role as GAIS. Whilst L2 (Gray) plays through FIFA windows. 

Woud being based down under in the ALM could have got the AWs call up as 3rd GK. Not now, and thus ends his outsider World Cup hopes..
