The thing about supporting a loser team for the best part of 20 years is that it is very hard to believe theyre going to win. It isnt the fans that need to do the believing, it is the team that has to make the fans believe.
You’re right that nothing instills belief like results, or at least 90 minutes of good performance even if it ends in heroic defeat. And maybe it’s tempting for supporters to overestimate the impact we can have on the team because the alternative is to admit we’re watching powerlessly from the sidelines.
But I still think we have a part to play by getting behind the lads even at their lowest point, so if there was ever a time when they needed the support this has to be it.
