Disclaimer: I don't follow the women close enough to have any opinion on them as a team. That said, from what I can tell they're having a decent season, but points wise are still closer to 9th than they are 1st? I'm not sure why that's being held up as a beacon of success for leadership.
Assuming Adelaide win tonight we’ll end the round in 4th place, 5 points off 1st and 3 off 8th with 15 points still to play for.

I’m not saying the Wāhinix are flawless, especially when it comes to dropping points away, but they’re strongly competitive and the table is tight enough that anything could happen. So my point is that if the club is fundamentally broken, this team doesn’t reflect that.

I absolutely agree with you about supporter mentality though. Maybe I’m hesitant to say Nix leadership is dysfunctional because I don’t see what goes on inside the club, but I do see the negativity across the fan base here and in the stands (at least for the men’s games - the atmosphere at Porirua Park is much better, but maybe that’s a self-selected sample of “happy clappers”).

For all it’s a toxic spiral, the way the men have been playing it’s hard to fault anyone for lacking the Port’s confidence - it’ll be interesting to see how resilient they are when (inevitably) they have poor seasons in the future. Who knows, maybe the stereotype is true and we Wellingtonians really are just a miserable bunch?

[quote=20 Legend]To your other point I think an arrogant fan base sometimes has a reenforcing effect. Those 800 port fans who went down had absolutely no doubt they were going to win. That rubs off on players. (both for good and for bad).
