Yeh, the Australians had the Phoenix supporting them financially in order to keep them afloat. That was an advantage they had, to just keep the lights on. Newcastle specifically. About half of them at least are struggling or were struggling financially. I’m sure they wouldn’t mind half a mill plus plus from the confederation in prizes, plus a development league to play their youth in.
And so I have a bit of legitimate beef, not just the fertilizer?
I just don’t see Auckland working together for the good of the A league or of NZ football the way the Nix did.
You’ve got very solvent and financially stable owners, the potentially best football market in terms of riding the inflation/unemployment waves (though the RoF will always be the home of NZ Football for me-2009! Where it all began) and had a lot of support from the confederation that could have been helpfully shared.
And now Corica’s gone, you can’t be accused of being Michael Clark-esque narcissistic fouling and whining brylcreem Sydneysiders anymore, so piggy wiggy wiggy woos it is noshing up all the funding it is.
Interesting how all that talk about building a stadium has vanished too. And that apparently had help from Tim Brown, Winston Reid and Steven Adams as well. Let’s call them proto-billionaires or per capita billionaires.
It’s BS though that the Aussies have gone no Kiwis in the Aussie Cup, cutting out a comp Paulsen and others found great for their development, and the OFC have said ‘No Nix…for now’ so both confederations are crapping on the Phoenix, rather than help them.
