I lost last night - ridiculously frustrating game. I had 54% possession and 11 shots to 7 but was on the wrong side of a 3-1 scoreline. I'm still first but on goal difference only and there's 3 points between me and 5th place, who I play next. My goal difference is only one better than there's too, so there's still a chance I'll miss out on the promotion playoffs despite leading the group with a game to play. On the other hand, if I win this one then it's glory days ahead. My GD is only 2 better than 2nd place so if I win but they win by 2 or 3 more than me then
I won't win the league. And they're playing the last-placed team...

Argh!

Sky Valley?

Have you checked on what quality of team is being dumped from the premier league?

No joy in getting a hiding most weeks and getting less $'s than higher up in second division.

Good luck to you. You could be playing Sir Fergie, which you should win, then a Premier team , or ex Premier team as it may be.

Probably better to finish 2nd or third if you want promotion then you get a chance to see if you can beat a Premier side , before advancing.

If you can't bet them, it's a good thing you didn't get promoted.

And in that last game a balanced 442 may have served you better. You should have won as you have a better side, although Matts keeper is a good one and your playing forward is a lower league player. Matlock Town is a far better side than the team you lost to. Good luck.

Yeah, I normally play 4-4-2 but the reason I didn't in that game was because both my regular starting strikers were suspended so it was a bit of a makeshift lineup - as I said a couple of posts above that. My two regular strikers are much better than the guy who played in that game (4.5* and 4.4*), it was just crappy luck that they were both out at the same time - it was the first game either of them have missed all season.

As for getting promoted to the Prem, I'm well aware the if it happened I'd most likely get trounced often and drop back down again, but the point of the game for me is to try and get as high up the ladder as possible. If I'm not playing to win then I don't really see the point. Obviously I want to win 2.4 as well, but even if I don't I still want promotion. Also, I've been in 2.4 for quite a while and a change of divisions would be nice just for the variety. And playing and losing in the Prem would at least give me a chance to know what I need to do to reach that level.

I played the 12th-placed Prem team in a cup game a few weeks ago and lost 1-0 but it was very even: possession was 51/49 and we had the same number of shots each, so I know I can at least get close to lower Prem teams on occasion.

And I disagree with your bit saying if I can't beat a Prem team in a playoff then it's a good thing I don't get promoted - what if I lose a few of my best players to injury or suspension before that game? What if I get a player sent off 10 minutes in? What if it's just one of those random ones where one side dominates but the  other wins? I don't think the quality of a team can be judged on just one performance in the game.

EDIT: sorry if that post came off as a bit defensive - I was just trying to put across why I want to win these games
