Wellington Phoenix general manager David Dome says the club is “very hopeful” it will be able to play two home matches in New Zealand once the trans-Tasman travel bubble opens later this month.
But fans in the capital might only get one chance to show their support at Sky Stadium, with the prospect of taking one of those matches to Eden Park in Auckland very much on the cards if the team is able to fly in from Wollongong, which will remain their base until the A-League season ends.
Dome said splitting the games between the two cities would make sense “because it probably gives us the best chance to close the revenue gaps and the expenditure holes that we have incurred because of the relocation”.
