If you take what you say is true Ryan (and it sounds like you have researched it) then surely McGlinchey would know that he is no longer under contract... I would also suspect that CCM would not be making noises about him being under contract as well.
I also think that the FFA would have an issue with this. Imagine you didn't want ADP on your team anymore. You change the legal entity, get 22/23 players to resign and then tell ADP - sorry mate.... You are then shot of his contract... It would create all sorts of craziness if you allowed it. I would suspect that the contracts would have some sort of agreement in principle with the FFA or new owners are bound to the existing terms/conditions etc.
I wouldn't say I did a whole lot of research - I googled the guys username to see if he had any credibility and it turns out that he is a commentator for CCM games in the local radio station. I'm guessing that means he has connections to the club.
It's probably just a whole lot of crap. But there have historically been issues with the Mariners and money, and they took on a whole lot of debt to do some sort of development which didn't really pan out.
Apparently the new owner has a bit of a history of lying to the fan base / media about CCM, if you look at the fans reaction to the tweet from the club it was all pretty much "just tell us the truth".
Maybe the sticking point for Mcglinchey is in Japan rather than Australia. Or maybe CCM don't agree with the above and want to fight it. Who knows, but smoke sometimes equals fire.
