I remember this being a possible stumbling block to the Phoenix having to pay the "compensation" suggested by the mediator in the Wee Mac saga. Indeed, I can't recall any A-League side paying a transfer fee, though I wouldn't be surprised if fees have been paid as paid of loan deals.
