Talking to friends and rellies in Europe regularly, I see their "business as usual" mindset as normalising what they see as inevitable. Not very different to ScoMo saying that since NSW cannot control the outbreak until it burns itself out, anyone who refuses to join the "live with it" bandwagon is stuck in the back of the cave refusing to see the daylight.
Yes we are taking the long torturous road to elimination but that's because we've only vaccinated a third of our population (or so). Once we're at 2/3 + of our population vaccinated, we may see fewer if any bad outcomes (deaths) in future outbreaks. We have, however, also managed to get through the outbreaks to date with fewer deaths per head of population than most EU countries.
