I think it would be such a risk to bring Reid here (which I'm sure he wouldn't want to anyway). Can't have your highest paid and possibly most important player in the squad be so injury prone. I'd rather bring in a couple of promising kids from the Academy to see if they can cut the mustard. 
Obviously the best course of action would be a to get a like for like replacement, a free agent with significant pedigree 

I don't necessarily think it's a good idea, but the hierarchy must be thinking:
We need a defender
We need a leader 
We need someone who is available 
We would like someone to help excite the fans
I think Reid's preference would be to play / be available for NZ rather than play for the Nix. Even though he is injured he will be in camp for the October NZ matches. Shows his dedication. Playing for the Nix  makes it hard for him to be available for NZ. 
For a NZer, someone like Musa might be a better option to bring in. He's on the NZ fringes and some exposure playing for the Nix might get him a better look in to a NZ call up, if thats what he wants. USL all wraps up by the end of the year I believe. 
Musa is an interesting idea - isn't he more of a DM?

Nikko Boxall, maybe? His contract in Finland ends Dec 31, he's a leader (captain of his club), and is a defender.
