Haven't read a lot of this thread but two things:

  1. Without being able to confirm 100% as I have only heard whispers, I'm pretty sure the nix got a very good deal at E.P as well.

  2. You may think E.P is a fuck up J.V but Westpac is on par at least, you have to admit. This on-going debate highlights that. Both venues are only perfect for two events a year and the rest are terrible events for massive stadiums.

I have to be honest and tell I don't know too much about Westpac. I lived there for 4 years but I was always like 'Why does Auckland not have something like this' so I don't see it as a fuck up. If you would like to enlighten me, I am all ears. I guess they probably could have not chosen to cater to cricket but that would be the only thing as far as I can see. I should also be a bit more specific but I don't actually mean that 'Eden Park' is a fuck up but more the process around the whole thing prior to the upgrade (the decision to upgrade vs waterfront) and now the problem the council have on their hands after the fact. I'm meaning from the POV of the bureaucrats in that they made it a fuck up. As far as grounds go, it does a job but I probably would have left the cricket block configuration as it was. The long on would be shorter than Pukekura Park at a guess.
