Still think it's better to spend $millions on developing the Phoenix into a winning side and attracting 12K to existing Westpac stadium than to spend upwards of $40 million on a new stadium out of central Wellington. How often has spending a fortune on a new stadium left British clubs struggling to pay debts which inevitably reduce on-field performances because they can't afford the players they need.
Make what you've got work better. It will be cheaper in the long run. The new stadium would be an expensive white elephant if the Phoenix decline as a result.
Well they are spending millions on developing the Nix into a better side. Spending millions on imports though, thats another story all together. The thing with English football is that you can field an entire side of imports almost. In the A-League you cant. If you want to compete with the best in England this is what you need to do. Not so much in A-League, too many restrictions on imports, salary cap.. etc. Ifill is one of the best players the League has ever seen, proof that mega bucks dont need to be spent.
