Good analysis Kwlap. AFC also won the mental battle. I was surprised by how wound up the Nix were. Five yellow cards, six including the Chief is very unusual for the Nix who normally a quite calm team. I don’t think they have mentally handled the derby’s very well.
I don’t have many worries for the Nix this season. We are still a work in progress with a large margin of potential improvement. We have already beaten both of last season’s finalists away. The Chief is a smart operator, he will get us far into the playoffs.
AFC have peaked IMO. What you see is what they have. It’s quite good but they will have plenty of tough away games. The loss of Verstraete for any significant time will be a big blow. I will be very interested to see what happens to them if they concede early and have to chase the game.

Agree the Nix, seem to have good potential upside. But alot of that relies on Rojas, increasing his loads and remaining injury free. His recent track record (barely playing last 2 years), ain't great.
With Auckland I think the unknown is the Colombian Moreno. Surprised Rogerson is still keeping him on the pine. Moreno's goal against the Jets was class. Also Gillion is pretty raw, and new to pro football. That 'end product' may suddenly start to appear.
Verstraete is a big loss for them, but suspect Gallegos will now sit a bit deeper, and Howieson is a hugely experienced player. Good enough to push Brimmer to the bench for a few games. Then you have the promising Toomey, and some good pre season wraps on Finn McKenlay. AFC basically dominated the Nix in midfield without Verstraete for 70 mins.
Edit - and it's defence that often wins premierships. Auckland look very very solid defensively.
