Seems Bill is definitely in the 1st team frame at present. OM only 3 points behind PSG in Ligue 1.
OM lost 1-2 and are actually 9th now and in a bit of a form slump. Monaco are 3 points behind PSG
Bill unfortunately did not get a run. OM were outplayed. Monaco have some really great players. The two Portuguese internationals James Rodriguez and Joao Mountinho in midfield were outstanding.
The future looks bright for Bill. He is on the bench for the first team even as a rookie 18 year old. OM is short of cash so they won't be buying a load of new players, so Bill probably won't be shoved down the pecking order. If he keeps developing he will get his chance...possibly this season.
james rodriguez is colombian, but both are former fc porto players like falcao. I don't think everyone should be as surprised by bill getting a chance at first team football as they are (not to take away what an amazing achievement it is) but OM is a club the is heavily invested in their youngsters and usually give them a chance early on, so hopefully we should see more of him in the frame.
You kind of wonder if England is the best place for young kiwi kids. It seems to me like it has been a bit of a graveyard for young kiwi players over the years. When you see youngsters like Ryan Thomas go straight into the first team in Div 1 Holland and Tuiloma now making the bench after only 4 months at a big club like Marseille then you kind of think that the Continent might be a better option. IMO Howieson has the skill to start for a lesser Dutch, Belgium or French side. These leagues are always getting their best players picked up by bigger clubs so they tend to give youngsters a go. Howieson does not appear to be going anywhere. If he does not make the first team soon he will be cut when his contract expires.
Agree that European leagues may offer better opportunity than England for reasons you stated Austin. Don't know how it works but I'd imagine a key factor is that the player has the support from the club to deal with culture/language shock.
